• Study the tcpdump man page. Pay particular attention to how you can use expressions to narrow in on the data of interest.
• Read the rfc for ARP and the rfc for ICMP.
• Read the rfc for IP and the rfc for TCP.
• Read the paper, listed below, on using ICMP for scanning
• Write a three page (figures and tables do not count) paper on ICMP. Follow the latest version of the APA Style Guide. The paper will be e-mailed to me not later than April 1st, and it will be in RTF format. Spelling, grammar, and format count.
